women I – the first series from art in print

Women I are Andrea Bischof, Georgia Creimer, Gabriele Schöne, Anna Stangl, Gerlinde Thuma and Regina Zachhalmel. For our first series, we invited six female artists of our generation that live and work in and around Vienna to each create a graphic image.

With women I, the first series from art in print, we have kept the theme fairly broad. Our intention for this series is to showcase a cross-section of original prints created by selected female artists from the generation born in the 1960s. Over the course of many months, two lithographs (Bischof, Schöne), two screen prints (Creimer, Thuma) and two etchings (Stangl, Zachhalmel) were created. The collection has been carefully curated, with each print especially created for women I. All of the artists applied their experience of printing and created a piece for women I that is representative of their personal style. As a result of our collaboration with the lithographer Rudi Hörschläger, screen printers Robert Svoboda and Andreas Stalzer and gravure printer Tom Phelan, handcrafted printed masterpieces were created. We made the conscious decision to combine objective and abstract perspectives in one series, quite simply because artists of our time often work both in an objective and an abstract style.
